The Joker appeared in the first edition of the Batman Comics as a criminal lunatic, dressed as the Joker, killed him with an IV and made a victim smile terribly. The villain's appearance was largely inspired by "The Laughing Man", a film based on the novel by Victor Hugo. The play is played by actor Conrad Witt as Gwen Plain, a boy who underwent surgery after being convicted by a British court of his father's betrayal. His face was mutilated, forcing him to "smile forever". Witte's appearance and the guidance of German expressionist painter Paul Leni made the character the character. He ended up becoming the character of cartoonists Bill Finger, Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson. Base.
